Why VO2 max is worth measuring
Large cohort studies place low cardiorespiratory fitness alongside — and often above — smoking, type 2 diabetes and hypertension as a mortality risk factor. Moving out of the lowest fitness quintile produces the largest single risk reduction of any measurable variable.
Unlike most biomarkers it is directly trainable. A 10–20% improvement within 12–16 weeks is realistic for most people, and it moves cardiovascular, metabolic and cognitive outcomes simultaneously.
